french flag Vive la France (France)
La Seine from Ille de Cite

Bonjours! Welcome on the french page of Cafe Oceandrive. Since I am not a fan of french speeches, I would like to come straight to the point: This page is divided into three parts (nope, has got nothing to do with the classic execution in the Middle Ages, you chicken):

As following, a little tour through Paris (oh la la).
Right afterwards a helpful tool for all those, who break out into a sweat from looking into the wine menu.
And last a little trip into the provinces, where France is still France.

Bon, nothing else to say than: A vos plaisir!

Oh la la Paris
Eiffel tower A sightseeing tour ends sooner or later at the Eiffel tower. What is the fascinating thing about
that steel construction, build at the world exhibit and nowadays target of thousands of
tourists all over the world?

Is it that unforgetable and
amazing view of Paris (on a
bright day?)

Everyone has its own reasons and yours should be that good, that you don't mind standing in line or queue for hours.

view from Eiffel tower

Oceandriver's advise: The tower has four legs, so there are four queues. But take
attention: Not all the queues bring you to the top of the tower. There are some waiting
lines who end at the entrance for taking the stairs (and those bring you just to the middle).

Others end at the entrace for the elevator who brings you actually to the top, but are more expensive!

Make sure you know which waiting line brings you where, BEFORE you stand in line!

Champs Elysees and Arc de Trioumph

Savoir-vivre:

You don't walk in Paris,
you hike. If you don't like that, do it as I did:
Visit a comfortable cafe and enjoy your trip.

 Arc de Trioumph
Paris is a city, where you can explore. It is not important that you saw all the sightseeings, but that you experienced something.
And if you were not able to, you should at least have enjoyed your trip (I visited more than 20 cafes during my last stay, but was not even one week there).

If you are saying that Paris is only for those in love, you may be wrong. If you are looking for an exciting trip, your may be as satisfied as art lovers, womanizer, hikers, architects and what else walks around on this planet.
A little wine guide

Can you imagine? You sit in a fine restaurant, opposite your date (or whoever you would like to impress),
your hands holding the wine menu and next to you that impatient waiter, who seems to be nice but at the moment
right now you would like to send him to the moon. And unfortunately there is not just simply "red wine" and "white
wine" to select on that fucking wine list, but about hundreds of each. And if you once ordered red Burgundy for your light fish, you know what I am talking about.

If you once have been in a situation as descriped above, this is the right place for you. And if you are one of these wine
connoisseur: I am aware that this guide is quite vague and there is also the preparation, side dish, sauce and probably the
the color of the napkin to consider. But if you are, you're better off visiting my links page.
There you find links from other wine connoisseurs or those who think they are...

It's easy: Just choose a meal category, click on "wine list" and I tell you, which wine matches to it.

La Provence - the provinces
The examples mentioned here are not representing the typical France, but something that should not be forgotten:
Asterix Those two heros must not be skipped. Who doesn't know them, the tiny cunning and the big dumb hero (hey hey hey, I did say "big", not "fat", take it easy man!!).
Asterix and Obelix is more than just a comic. Did you know that there are more historical facts in those
magazines than a history book? Well, if you did not noticed, you should start reading them. You will be
really surprised. My favorite book? All those adventures who brings them in foreign countries...
Obelix
Canal de Nates a Brest

Another possibility to travel France is on a boat. It does not matter if you are in
the north, in the burgundy, in the bretagne or in the south. You can find the typical
provinces only that way and also the corresponding food and wine.
No phantasy to find a touroperator who offers such trips? No problem, you will
find a small choice on my links page.
